Measuring for Skirt Block

Measurements Needed to Make Skirt Block

There are really only 4 measurements needed to create the Skirt Block, but if you prefer to divide the waist and hips measurements into the Front/Back Arcs, then you need 8 measurements.

The measurements are shown on the images below.

  1. Waist: Around the smallest part of the torso.
  2. Front Waist Arc: From the Side seam to Centre Front.
  3. Skirt Length: From Waist down below knee (personal preference).
  4. Hip: Around the widest part of the body below the waist.
  5. Front Hip Arc: From the side seam to centre front of the hip circle.
  6. Hipline Depth: From waist to the widest part of the body.

  1. Back Waist Arc:  From side seam to side seam at waist level.
  2. Back Hip Arc: From side seam to side seam at hip level.

Hi Maria, please confirm that the measurements 7 (back waist arc) and 8 (back hip arc) are both measured from side seam to center back and not side seam to side seam.

Hello Hyacinth

So sorry... I will eventually understand how to use this comment system. It hasn't been advising me that comments have been left, which is why I am so late in responding. (I don't have the time to look through every page on my website to see if a comment has been left; I have to rely on the system to send me an email to advise me..)

Anyway, your question has made me realise how poorly I have explained these measurements. Yes, the Back Waist Arc and the Back Hip Arc is from the side seam to the CB for the half block, however it makes more sense (easier, more accurate) to measure from side seam to side seam, then divide by two. Same goes for the Front Waist Arc and Front Hip Arc.

I will amend that page as soon as I am able for clarity.

So sorry again for the late response. It may take me some time to sort out all these issues with the Comments System.
